Paz Dela Huerta Profile-Biography And Pictures-Images

Paz Dela Huerta
Date of Birth:
September 09, 1984
Birth Place:
New York City, New York
Biography:
Born Maria de la Paz Elizabeth Sofia Adriana de la Huerta, the native New Yorker grew up in the early incarnation of SoHo, when it was the hub of the city’s art scene. Paz de la Huerta was groomed for a life as an artist from an early age, spending her childhood visiting art galleries with her mother, an authority on birth control in third world countries for the United Nations, and her father, the Spanish Duke of Mandas and Villanueva. However, as Paz’s childhood eccentricities grew (she only wore silk underwear), so did her father’s alcoholism, which eventually led to her parents’ separation when their daughter was just 12.
Growing up as a member of lower Manhattan’s creative class, Paz de la Heurta bought into all the tropes that went along with it; she shaved her head, fell into the punk scene, befriended artists and musicians, and commiserated with drug addicts. One of her artist friends was photographer Tina Barney, who took a photo of Paz applying makeup in a mirror, while her less-than-pleased mother glared in the background. The photograph achieved a cult-like status in New York’s fickle art world, was published in W magazine, displayed at the MoMA and made it’s young Lolita into something of a local celebrity.
